The LV= Cup is credited for playing a crucial role in the development of the next generation of elite players and England head coach, Stuart Lancaster, has backed the launch of a new award for this season's LV= Cup, which will recognise a young player who has stood out in the 2011-2012 competition
Following in the footsteps of Charlie Sharples, Courtney Lawes and Ben Youngs, a twenty strong group of emerging stars has been whittled down to six by a panel of rugby experts: Martin Bayfield (ITV), Ieuan Evans (Sky), Gwyn Jones (S4C) and Gavin Mairs (Telegraph). Supporters are being given the chance to vote for the player they believe has made an outstanding contribution to the competition over the past seven months with the introduction of the LV= Breakthrough Player Award.
The player with the highest number of nominations will receive a Tag Heuer watch plus £1,000 donated to a local grassroots club of his choice and, of course, the inaugural LV= Cup Breakthrough Player trophy.
The six nominees are:
George Ford (Leicester Tigers)
Jonathan Joseph (London Irish)
Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby)
Liam Williams (Scarlets)
Matthew Morgan (Ospreys)
Matt Kvesic (Worcester Warriors)
Voting is open on lv.com/rugby until midnight on Sunday, 11 March and the winner will be announced on Tuesday 13 March.
You may decide to vote and, if you do, hopefully you may vote for the right man!
